What a rooftop system really costs per kilowatt in Raipur, what sits inside the price and where cheap quotes cut corners.

Ask five installers for the solar panel price in Raipur and you may hear five numbers, none of them comparable. The reason is simple: a "price per kW" can hide very different systems. This guide shows what the number normally includes, what drives it up or down and how to turn three quotes into one fair comparison.
Quick answer: in Raipur, a quality 3 kW on-grid system costs about Rs 1.65 to 1.90 lakh before subsidy and a 5 kW system about Rs 2.6 to 3.0 lakh. That works out to roughly Rs 52,000 to 63,000 per kW. After the central subsidy, a 3 kW home nets out to roughly Rs 87,000 to 1.12 lakh.
| System size | Indicative price before subsidy | Approx. price per kW | Central subsidy | Net cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | Rs 60,000 - 70,000 | Rs 60,000 - 70,000 | Rs 30,000 | Rs 30,000 - 40,000 |
| 2 kW | Rs 1.2 - 1.4 lakh | Rs 60,000 - 70,000 | Rs 60,000 | Rs 60,000 - 80,000 |
| 3 kW | Rs 1.65 - 1.90 lakh | Rs 55,000 - 63,000 | Rs 78,000 | Rs 87,000 - 1.12 lakh |
| 5 kW | Rs 2.6 - 3.0 lakh | Rs 52,000 - 60,000 | Rs 78,000 | Rs 1.8 - 2.2 lakh |
| 10 kW | Rs 5.0 - 5.8 lakh | Rs 50,000 - 58,000 | None above 3 kW | Rs 5.0 - 5.8 lakh |
The figures are indicative and move with module availability, brand and site. Smaller systems cost more per kW because fixed items such as the inverter, protection devices and labour are spread over less capacity.
Solar hardware is close to a commodity, so a quote far below the market is not buying the same thing more cheaply. The usual savings are thinner structure steel, undersized cables, no surge protection, an unbranded inverter, day-rate labour and paperwork left to you. None of these appear on a one-line summary. They appear in year three, when a storm bends a structure or an inverter fails outside warranty.
| Component | Premium or tier-1 | Budget or unbranded | What you give up with budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modules | Established manufacturers, documented warranty | Lesser-known makers | Warranty claim certainty, performance consistency |
| Inverter | Reputable brand with service network | Unbranded or imported with no local support | Service response and spare availability |
| Structure | Hot-dip galvanised, designed for wind load | Thin sections, light coating | Storm resilience and life |
| Cables | UV-rated, correctly sized | Undersized or mixed quality | Losses and heating |
GST on solar equipment was cut from 12 per cent to 5 per cent in the September 2025 rationalisation, which took a visible slice off system prices. The central subsidy under PM Surya Ghar is credited to your bank account after commissioning, so you pay the full system price first. Chhattisgarh has announced a state top-up, reported at up to Rs 30,000 for 3 kW and above, which you should verify with CSPDCL. Our guide to PM Surya Ghar Yojana in Chhattisgarh sets out both.
Our 10-point checklist for the best solar installer in Raipur goes into each of these checks in more detail.
A system that costs Rs 20,000 less but generates 10 per cent less for 25 years is not cheaper. Compare quotes on net cost per unit generated over the system's life, not on sticker price alone. In Raipur, one kilowatt of well-installed capacity produces about 1,500 units a year, so a 3 kW system should deliver roughly 360 to 400 units a month. A quote that promises much more than this deserves scrutiny.
Spend on the inverter, the structure and the earthing. Save on cosmetic extras and on oversizing. If budget is tight, choose a slightly smaller system built properly rather than a larger one built cheaply, because additional capacity can be added later but corners cut in the structure and earthing cannot be undone easily.
Ask each installer to list what is not included. A fair quote says so in plain words; a vague one leaves surprises for later.
Tie payments to milestones: a modest advance on order, a further instalment on material delivery, another on installation and the balance on commissioning. Avoid paying the full amount upfront, and never pay the subsidy amount to anyone. Ask for a receipt for every payment and a written warranty document. If a vendor insists on cash only or discounts for upfront payment that look too good, treat that as a caution sign.
| Section | What it should state |
|---|---|
| Capacity | DC capacity in kW, number of panels and wattage of each |
| Modules | Manufacturer, model, DCR certificate, warranty terms |
| Inverter | Manufacturer, model, rating, warranty and service contact |
| Structure | Material, galvanising, height, wind-load basis |
| Electrical | Cable sizes, protection devices, earthing and surge protection |
| Services | Survey, design, installation, commissioning, portal and net metering support |
| Commercials | Total price, GST, payment milestones, delivery timeline |
| Performance | Expected annual generation in units and the assumptions behind it |
A last practical tip: ask for the same quotation format from every installer. When three companies fill in the same table, the differences stand out and the negotiation becomes about facts instead of impressions.

For a quality tier-1 on-grid system, expect roughly Rs 52,000 to 63,000 per kW before subsidy in Raipur, depending on system size, brands and roof. Larger systems cost less per kW than very small ones.
A proper rooftop quotation prices the complete system: modules, inverter, mounting structure, cables, earthing, protection devices, installation, commissioning and paperwork. If a quote only lists panel wattage and a total, ask for the breakdown.
GST on solar equipment was reduced from 12 per cent to 5 per cent in the September 2025 rationalisation, which lowered system costs across the industry. Confirm the tax treatment shown in your invoice.
Module and inverter tier, structure steel, cable sizing, earthing and surge protection, who files the paperwork and the workmanship warranty all differ. A lower price usually removes something you cannot see on the summary page.
The central subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 for 3 kW is credited to your account after commissioning, so it reduces your net cost rather than the invoice. Chhattisgarh has also announced a state top-up that you should confirm with CSPDCL.
