Two districts, two very different solar cases - and the same Rs 78,000 subsidy available to households in both.

Searches for rooftop solar Korba Rajnandgaon have climbed sharply over the last two years, and for good reason. Both districts have the sunshine, the roof space and the rising tariffs that make solar work - but each has its own quirks that a generic Raipur-focused guide will not cover.
This article deals with both districts specifically: what systems cost there, how the subsidy works, what farmers should consider, and how to avoid the single biggest mistake buyers in these districts make.
The obvious objection first: Korba produces a very large share of Chhattisgarh's thermal power, so why would anyone there install solar?
Because generating power in your district does not make your electricity cheaper. Korba households pay exactly the same CSPDCL retail tariff as households in Raipur - above seven rupees a unit once consumption crosses 400 units. Proximity to a power station changes nothing on the bill.
Meanwhile Korba's solar resource is excellent, with irradiance comparable to Raipur's 5.0 to 5.5 kWh per square metre per day. Add the district's characteristic housing - independent homes and township quarters with generous flat roofs - and the case is straightforward.

One genuine local consideration: fly ash and coal dust. Panels in parts of Korba soil faster than in most of Chhattisgarh, and an unwashed array can shed 20 to 25 per cent of its output.

Rajnandgaon is a more agricultural district, and the solar conversation there splits in two.
In Rajnandgaon town, Dongargarh and Khairagarh the picture looks much like Raipur - residential rooftop systems of 2 kW to 5 kW, subsidised under PM Surya Ghar, paying back in three to four years.
Outside the towns the priority is usually irrigation rather than lighting. Farmers here spend far more on diesel for pump sets than they do on household electricity, and that is where solar delivers its biggest return in this district.
Prices are broadly the same as Raipur, with a modest allowance for transport and team mobilisation to more distant blocks.

As an agricultural solar pump dealer in Chhattisgarh, we see the same arithmetic repeatedly across Rajnandgaon, Dongargarh and the Khairagarh belt.
A 5 HP diesel pump set running through a kharif and rabi cycle burns a substantial fuel bill every season, and diesel prices only move one way. A solar pump of equivalent capacity removes that cost entirely and runs whenever the sun is up, which removes the dependence on an erratic three-phase supply window.

Both districts have large numbers of villages where grid street lighting is either absent or unreliable. Standalone solar street lights need no trenching, no cabling and no meter, which makes them the practical choice for panchayat budgets.
A 60 W all-in-one unit with integrated lithium battery and motion dimming typically costs Rs 14,000 to Rs 22,000 installed, lights a 15 to 20 metre stretch, and runs for years with no recurring cost. Installation takes a morning per pole.
Here is the one that costs people real money: choosing an installer who has no realistic way of servicing them.
Plenty of firms will happily sell a system in Korba or Rajnandgaon, install it over a weekend and then treat any subsequent service call as an inconvenient two-hour drive. Three years later, when an inverter throws a fault, the customer discovers the warranty is technically valid but practically unusable.
